When Maria Nepembe first hit our television screens on the Big Brother Africa reality show in 2013, it was evident that the then 25 year old’s persona would garner her prominence that would still be going strong years after her debut which it is, almost 10 years later. Al l of this makes Maria something of a reality star anomaly, and it reflects through her constant appeal to the local and international markets. After her Big Brother stint, Maria relocated to Ghana as a tv host for a local fashion and lifestyle channel call ed GlamTV.
She has since returned home to Namibia, but the consummate television personality, host, film director, and producer is still booking major deals and brand partnerships, including Kiyola Media Group, High Definition Hair Boutique, Twincare Pro fessional Outlets, and LSK Auto Repair.
Maria also hosted the Simply You Magazine Lifestyle and Fashion Awards, and the Namibia Annual Music Awards, and is one of the few Namibian creatives invited to attend the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards in Nige ria. With her arsenal of online media channels that span the mediums of beauty, fitness, fashion, and more, the flouncy, dress and sneaker loving Maria has become an all service lifestyle provider to her audience. And who better to trust than a girl they h ave grown up with on television a person whose career, relationships, and perhaps most important, sense of style, has evolved along with their own.It is not surprising that Maria, who is considered a style icon both in Namibia and across Africa ha d her o wn clothing brand. She launched her fashion line RIA in 2015. In 2021, Maria also took home 3 awards at the prestigious Zikomo Fashion Music Awards hosted in Zambia. She won the Fashionista of The Year, Best Social Media Influencer, and Lifetime Achievemen t award.
Paying homage to her reality show beginnings that catapulted her into stardom, Maria also a certified director and produce d her own fitness reality boot camp show titled ‘Body with Maria Nepembe’ through the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation. Director Ria has also directed over 3 famous videos for songs by Namibian musicians and recently, and conceptualized and directed an adve rt called “Housewives of PayPulse” for Standard Bank Namibia. Many people have guilty pleasures, and for some of us, it’s the reality that is Maria.
